Course Reflection

Sport and leisure should be taken as a significant issue in these days. In this part I will talk about my self-reflection in this course.
First of all, we did the MOOC test which was about watching some videos which were fun and easy to understand and then we answered some questions and we got a certificate. The videos were about Faster, Higher and Stronger so it   helped us to understand the importance of the sport and how it affects positively human health.
The following project was the presentation about my trip to Bosnia which actually made me happy because I have shared the information about this beautiful country with the whole class. This trip which is a type of leisure helped me understand something such as how the people lived there during the war and I learnt some of European culture.
Then, we submitted a video about Alforsan club as our case study. It taught me how it is necessary to visit a club containing a huge number of activities to give the citizens a place to enjoy their free time.
Finally, the interview was a good opportunity for us to listen to an old person and to know the differences between the sport and leisure in the past and now.
In conclusion, it is an important course due to its benefits that we learned about and discussed with our teacher in the class.

Final project

Changes in sports and leisure activities
Introduction:
The interview was conducted with Hedley Butterfield about sports and leisure and its change and continuity. First of all, he gives a brief introduction about his childhood then tells about changes in sports and leisure activities in the past and now. He said that he used to play cricket, rugby, squash, and tennis during his entire life but now at the age of 66 he has retired and couldn’t play cricket, rugby, and squash so regularly but he does exercise daily to keep himself healthy and strong.
Body:
He was born in 1949. Today he teaches us Sports and Leisure and Society which strikes him how much the world has changed. He said that leisure is a concept, not something really in which people spent a lot of time thinking about. He used to play cricket, football, tennis and all other games that can be played in streets, listen to the radio or read books or listen to his parent’s story as his leisure time. He said that sports were not much of business in 1950 compared to now. But cricket team of 1950’s was much better than today’s team. He further added that If we see young people of England and UAE today there are a lot of sports facilities for them like sports clubs and all these facilities are now easily available to not just young people’s but also to adults as well. He said that when he was young he usually played football and cricket in streets. When he was 11 in his grammar school, games like rugby and cricket were played at that time. He continued playing cricket until next twenty years and he even played cricket and rugby when he got his first job abroad in 1980 in Brunei. He played cricket and rugby for a club named the Royal Brunei Yacht Club and he even represented Brunei in rugby and played two international matches of rugby. Further adding he told that now at age of 66 he has retired from rugby and also doesn’t play cricket regularly but he goes to  a club every day to play squash. He doesn’t like to go home straight from college without doing some physical exercise. He didn’t do much exercise when he was young, but now he does exercise to stay healthy.  He also represented Abu Dhabi Club at squash where he played as number one player in a team of five in division four. To remain fit, he continued to play it for the next twenty years and from last year or two he didn’t try to play squash every day because of back pain problem.
Conclusion:
Leisure and sports activities of today are very different than in the past. In old time people used to listen to radio, play cricket in streets, watch rugby read books and spend more time with family but now it has changed a lot as more facilities are available. During old days, there were not many facilities for sports but now sports facilities are available easily not only for young ones but also for adults.

Case study

Spread over 1,600,000 sqm in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s new Khalifa City area, Al Forsan International Sports Resort is the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates and the Arabian Gulf. The resort, which has equestrian facilities, karting tracks and wakeboarding lakes as well as a state-of-the-art shooting range, is fast becoming the region’s preferred destination for world class sports and leisure. Built to nurture local sporting talent and help establish Abu Dhabi as a top international sports destination, the resort is also a unique facility for corporate and team building events.

we have chosen this place because there are many activities that we want to discover there. Another reason is that because it offer everything to make a perfect video. Also, it's close to our college so we can go there anytime.

The content and the reflection of the videos

The content

We saw a short video last week it was about 45 minutes, but it was not in the same video so it was separated into seven videos with different titles. Generally, the video was useful and it was about Faster, Higher and Stronger. Some video explained the physical requirement of our own sports and how can we improve it. Also, we watched the video which explained how we can develop our performance. Another video showed how the person can improve his strength and how it helps. In addition, we watched a video about the speed and the power and how can we improve it as much as we can. Furthermore, we saw some videos which explain the improvement of endurance, flexibility and the agility. It was demonstrated from one of the videos that the needs analysis is important. Finally, the videos were important for the sports, particularly on our speed and strength.

 The Reflection

After completing the course, it seems that we have learnt a lot of things about the sports and how can we prepare our physical strength. From my perspective, it was helpful by doing this course because of several reasons. One of these reasons is the strength which is one of the most important roles for the athlete. For example, the runner needs to be strong to be a professional and to achieve accomplishments. This video taught me how I can improve my speed which is essential in the sports. We saw in the video how the training is important to be a winner. This video will help me a lot in the future to be a real athlete. What’s more, the video teaches me how I can be a competitor in the competitions. The thing that I want to know more is how to manage my time and when is the best time to exercise and how many times I have to exercise per week. To sum up, I think it’s an important course to me because of the benefits I have gained.
